Developing Female Leadership
The Master of Science in Leadership program consists of 16 courses for a total of 64 credit hours.
MSL 501 Developing a Philosophy of Leadership (4 credits)
Examine the theory and application of leadership from a philosophical perspective. Explore real world leadership to develop the conceptual framework you need to acquire the skills, competencies and insights to become an effective leader.
MSL 542 Self Efficacy: The Genesis for Leadership (4 credits)
Develop self-awareness, express personal authenticity and integrate practical leadership skills into an effective approach to organizational management. Hone your communication, coaching, motivational, and inspirational public speaking and group facilitation skills.
MSL 510 Critical Thinking for Leaders (4 credits)
Explore the concepts of critical thinking and decision-making and learn how those can be adapted as your leadership roles and responsibilities evolve.
MSL 536 Ethical Leadership and Globalization (4 credits)
Understand ethical leadership and globalization from both theoretical and practical perspective. Build on your conceptual framework for leadership by developing a sense of how to better the common good. Examine prominent theories and practices of leadership in a communitarian, social and global context and will competencies traditionally associated with civic engagement.
MSL 586 Power, Politics and Conflict Resolution (4 credits)
Study formal and informal methods of conflict resolution—including negotiation and mediation strategies and techniques—and examine your own real-life conflicts and applications of resolution, both in and out of the office.
MSL 620 Strategic Planning for Effective Leaders (4 credits)
Develop a strategy to measure financial responsibility and accountability as well as customer satisfaction, divisional and/or departmental interaction, with the intent of identifying best practices and overall organizational effectiveness.
MSL 635 Diversity, Inclusion and Cultural Management for Women Leaders (4 credits)
Diversity and inclusion is about teaching people to work successfully with people different from themselves. Collaborate with female leaders to develop an understanding of the complex issues of diversity and how to address these issues in a highly competitive environment. Develop skills for creating a truly inclusive culture. Learn to demonstrate a conscious awareness of having diverse representation in meetings, training classes, promotions, recognitions and rewards.
MSL 522 Community Service and Social Responsibility (4 credits)
Examine how ordinary people can accomplish extraordinary things through service learning, volunteering and community outreach. Understand the fundamental importance of moral and civic education. Begin to see yourself as a member of a community and as an individual with a responsibility to contribute to the common good of society and your communities.
MSL 581 The Gender Awareness Phenomenon: Exploring Interpersonal and Organizational Dynamics (4 credits)
Gain a framework for understanding, assessing and managing gender differences in your interactions at work and in your personal life. Learn how these interactions affect your personal interactions, the organizational culture in general and the day-to-day organization operations in particular.
MSL 540 Mentoring and Networking for Leaders (4 credits)
Mentoring and Networking for Leaders provides a base for the skills necessary to coach, mentor, counsel, network and measure performance to assist others in becoming more committed to performance objectives and increased productivity.
MSL 650 Financial Management and Business Intelligence (4 credits)
Establish financial literacy and identify and benchmark non-financial performance indicators. Learn to make financially informed decisions to evaluate an organization's financial health and maximize performance.
MSL 672 Entrepreneurial Management and Leadership (4 credits)
Develop a mindset that will lead to a better understanding and appreciation for entrepreneurship as an effective tool for organizational development. Learn about the type of leadership necessary to drive the success of an entrepreneurial organization.
MSL 663 Servant Leadership (4 credits)
Study the management model that is embraced by Fortune 500 companies, learning the theoretical and practical principles of being a servant and elevating others. Critically review and analyze current strategic ideals about servant leadership through a focus on perspectives, values, skills and knowledge necessary for successful leaders in the 21st century.
MSL 589 Change Agent – A New Leader for Change (4 credits)
Identify and incorporate the eight-stage process of successful change agents. The course examines real-life business scenarios where the need for change has been imminent. Learn to identify strategic business implications for lack of change. Gain skills for breaking through challenges at each of the eight stages. Understand the consequences of errors in sequence, and lack of leadership or sufficient communication. Learn how to successfully remove organizational structural barriers to attain lasting change.
MSL 550 The Endowment of Religions for Female Leadership (4 credits)
This course offers an innovative approach to studying major world religions and their sacred writings by focusing on the leadership role of women as outlined in the writings and the practices of the various world religions.
MSL 681 Leadership Capstone (4 credits)
The capstone course in the Leadership program brings together what students have learned throughout the program. Students will put their own leadership philosophies into action.
