How and when do I get started?

How many sessions a year do you offer?
The Online Master of Education offers 6 sessions per year. Request more information or call (866) 295-3104 to speak with one of our Admissions Advisors.

What kind of educational background is required for admission?
You must have an undergraduate degree from a regionally accredited college or university with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and a valid teaching certificate. Applicants who do not meet the minimum admission requirements may be considered for conditional admission.

Can I enter Online Master of Education with no GRE or MAT exam?
Yes. The Online Master of Education program admits students with no GRE or MAT exam.

Is a campus residency required?
No. The Online Master of Education can be completed entirely online and does not require travel to campus.

Will I have to write a thesis?
No. The Online Master of Education does not require a thesis. Instead, students enrolled in the Online MED complete three projects.

The first project is the action research proposal. Using the expertise gained in the program students identify a question question related to reading or literacy in the class room, then design a study that will answer that question, conduct an anlysis of available literature, and conduct the research.

In the second project students develop a professional portfolio, which will track their professional growth and development.

In the final project students apply the theory they've gained through their studies to a real world activities, which include a comprehensive case study of a child’s literacy strengths and challenges.

How many total credits are required?
The Online Education Master's requires 33-semester hours.

How many courses do I take per academic term?
Most adult students who work fulltime take one online course per eight week session. The Online MED program offers six academic sessions per year, which means that most students take six courses per year.

How long will it take to complete the Online MED program?
Students can comfortably complete the Online Master of Education program in less than 2 years while working full-time.

Will my degree reflect that I earned my Master of Education degree online?
No. Benedictine University awards campus and online students the same degree credential.

Is faculty advising available for all students?
Yes. Each student receives a customized curriculum plan for the Online Master of Education program and can set up a telephone appointment to speak with an advisor whenever assistance is needed.
